Summer Story Time

Summer Story Time Brings Books, Learning, and Community to Neighborhoods Across CHCCS

This summer, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation hosted four Summer Story Time sessions in over twenty neighborhood communities across Chapel Hill and Carrboro. These story times brought books, learning, crafts and fun directly to local families. CHCCS teachers led engaging read-alouds that introduced children to a variety of stories while encouraging a lifelong love of reading.

Each child received free books to build their home library, helping ensure they had access to reading materials throughout the summer. Families also enjoyed healthy snacks and opportunities to connect with educators in a welcoming, neighborhood setting.

By meeting families where they live, Summer Story Time strengthened school-community relationships, encouraged family involvement in literacy, and helped children stay engaged in reading and learning during the summer months.
