Destination Broadway

Broadway Comes to Life for Jag Theater Students at Carrboro High School
With support from a PSF grant, Jag Theater brought 15 students to New York City for a three-day, two-night Broadway experience filled with performances, workshops, and opportunities to learn from professional artists. Students saw two Broadway shows, toured Broadway theaters, toured the Museum of Broadway, and participated in hands-on stage combat and song-and-dance workshops. They also explored Times Square, the Drama Bookshop, Mood Fabrics, and the Capezio Flagship Store.
For 11 students, the trip included a first-ever Broadway show, making the experience especially meaningful. Students gained confidence, expanded their understanding of live theater and saw firsthand the many career paths available in the performing arts. One workshop instructor, a Broadway professional who attended Duke and studied fight choreography in Raleigh, helped students see that careers in theater can begin close to home.
Experiences like this demonstrate the power of the arts in high school to inspire creativity, build confidence, and open new possibilities for students’ futures.
