Games that Build Skills

Navi-Gamers at Northside Elementary gave 15 rising 3rd–5th grade students an engaging way to strengthen math skills through strategic board games, card games, and hands-on learning.

Led by Kiandra Torry and Ashley Quick-Hooker, the PSF-funded summer program focused on building math fact fluency, critical thinking, and confidence. Every student demonstrated measurable growth on pre- and post-assessments. One student improved from 53% to 95%, while another achieved 100% mastery after beginning at 60%.

As one student proudly shared after solving a multiplication problem, “I remembered it from playing the game,” showing how learning through play translated into lasting mathematical understanding.
