Thanks to a collaboration between the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation (PSF), the Town of Chapel Hill, Hope Renovations, and The Chapel of the Cross, four new Little Free Libraries are helping children across our community discover the joy of reading by making free books accessible year-round.

The Town of Chapel Hill partnered with PSF to identify neighborhoods where access to books and literacy resources is more limited, ensuring the little libraries would have the greatest impact. Hope Renovations skillfully built each Little Free Library, while The Chapel of the Cross provided funding through its Seed Fund to bring the vision to life. PSF coordinated the partnership and stocked the libraries with books so children and families could begin enjoying them immediately. Volunteer groups will now help sustain the project by restocking the libraries with books provided by PSF, ensuring a steady supply of reading materials for young readers.

Located in neighborhoods where they are needed most, these Little Free Libraries remove barriers to reading and encourage children to build a lifelong love of books. Whenever possible, PSF stocks each library with books in English as well as in the languages most commonly spoken by families in the surrounding community, helping more children see themselves reflected in the stories they read. Together with PSF’s Books Over Break initiative and other literacy programs, these libraries are helping ensure every child has greater access to books, stronger literacy skills, and more opportunities to succeed.
