Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate Program
The CHCCS Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate Program connects students with caring adult mentors who provide encouragement, guidance, and support throughout the school year.
PSF serves as the fiscal agent for this important program, providing fundraising support, grant writing assistance, and financial management. In addition, PSF manages BRMA scholarship funds and oversees the distribution of scholarship awards for recipients. This partnership expands opportunities through program events, student experiences, travel, and direct financial support, that strengthen relationships and opens doors for students.

Books Over Break
Access to books at home is essential for building strong literacy skills. Through Books Over Break, PSF provides free books to students who may have limited access to reading materials outside of school.
Students are able to select books to take home over school breaks and keep them as part of their own home libraries—helping ensure every child has access to books and opportunities to read year-round.

Summer Story Time
Summer Story Time brings books, storytelling, and literacy activities directly into neighborhoods across the community. These events help students stay connected to reading and learning while school is out.
PSF partners with schools and community organizations to reach families who may have limited access to summer literacy opportunities and helps foster a love of reading in fun and welcoming community settings.

Summer Food Drive
During the summer months, when students are out of school and school-based meals are unavailable, food insecurity can increase. Our Summer Food Drive, in partnership with PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro, collects nonperishable donations at every CHCCS school from May 18 to June 26, 2026 (Monday–Thursday, 9 AM–3 PM). Donations can also be dropped off at the Lincoln Center. Contributions of cereal, rice, pasta, peanut butter, canned goods, and other shelf-stable items help ensure that families in our community have access to nourishing food throughout the summer.

Emergency Assistance
Unexpected financial challenges can sometimes create barriers for students and families. PSF’s Emergency Assistance program provides flexible support when urgent needs arise that impact a student’s ability to participate fully in school.
Working closely with school social workers, PSF helps respond quickly and compassionately to ensure students have what they need to stay engaged in learning.
