Camp Ignite 2025

Chapel Hill High School’s Fire Academy Chief Travis Adkinson received a PSF grant to support Camp Ignite 2025, a free summer program for girls in grades 8–12 in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. Led by volunteer firefighters, the camp introduces young women to firefighting skills like ladder drills, vehicle extrication, and search and rescue, while also building confidence and leadership. With women making up just 7% of firefighters, Camp Ignite helps campers see new career possibilities. “I love this camp!” said two-time camper Autumn, who now wants to become a firefighter.
