Foundational Literacy Skills

Thanks to a PSF Professional Development Grant, 40 secondary teachers from Culbreth Middle School and Phoenix Academy are engaging in six one-hour, job-embedded sessions designed to strengthen their understanding of the science of reading. This hands-on training in partnership with The Hill Center of Durham equips teachers with practical strategies to support struggling readers, align classroom instruction with intervention practices, and boost confidence in helping all students succeed. The program fosters collaboration, lesson analysis, and evidence-based teaching, advancing CHCCS’s commitment to literacy, equity, and student achievement.
