Inspiring with STEM

At McDougle Middle School, students are bringing STEM to life through hands-on exploration and creativity. With support from the Public School Foundation, math teacher Mary Patricia Peres-da-Silva is introducing robotics, coding, and engineering kits into her classroom during monthly “STEM Fridays.”
Students will design, build, and problem-solve using tools like Sphero, Turing Tumble, and Gravitrax—developing real-world skills while collaborating with peers. The experience will culminate in a schoolwide STEM Night, where students showcase their projects to families and the community.
By making STEM interactive, inclusive, and student-driven, this program is building confidence, sparking curiosity, and inspiring the next generation of innovators.
